Forbes ranked LSU among the top 50 best value public universities in the nation Tuesday.

LSU is the highest rated university in Louisiana on the list at number 44, and rated number 88 overall in best value college rankings.

“We are pleased to be recognized as one of the best values in the country by Forbes,” said LSU President F. King Alexander.

“This ranking looks at what truly matters to parents and students: outcomes. Universities should be measured by the ways they impact families – student debt, starting salaries, graduation rates, and financial aid support. These are the areas important to students when making a college choice, and at LSU, these are the areas we focus on to make sure students obtain an affordable and competitive college degree.”

Forbes began releasing these rankings three years ago  “to help students and their families evaluate the likely return on their investment.”

Forbes based the rankings of 300 schools on net price, net debt, alumni earnings, timely graduation, school quality and access for low-income students.

The list evaluates institutions offering four-year degrees and does not include private for-profit schools.
