(9/7/18) According to our partners at The News-Star, LSU and Ochsner Health System are set to take over operations of northern Louisiana’s safety net hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe Oct. 1 pending final approval Friday from the LSU Board of Supervisors.

The board’s health committee unanimously recommended approval, but the full board must give its OK Friday afternoon following committee meetings.

“I’m pretty happy about this,” LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport medical school Chancellor G.E. Ghali told the board. “This is an exciting moment in the history of LSU and the LSU Health Sciences Center.”

The 50-50 partnership, called the Ochsner LSU Health System of North Louisiana, will be governed by a 10-person board with each partner having five appointments.

The two hospitals, now called University Health, will be called Ochsner LSU Hospital Shreveport and Ochsner LSU Hospital Monroe.

Ochsner and LSU will take over operation of the hospitals from BRF.
