(2/4/2019) In one week, at music’s biggest night, dozens of trophies will be handed at the 61st annual Grammy Awards.
One of those hoping to take home some hardware is Louisiana’s own Lauren Daigle.
The Lafayette native is nominated for two Grammy awards this year. Her current album sits at #1 on the Billboard Christian chart for the 18th week in a row. The first release from that album, “You Say”, has topped several Billboard Christian music charts since it was released in July, #1 streaming for 23 weeks, #1 in digital song sales, and it held the #1 slot on the airplay chart for 27 weeks.
Interestingly, all that success hasn’t jaded her. She says it’s inspired her. “I remember feeling like what is all of this, like the red carpet and the energy of it all.” says Daigle. “I’m just a swamp girl from Louisiana. I remember going into the studio the next day, and telling my producers I don’t know what I’m signing up for like I feel really unsure about kind of my surroundings and like the fear of the unknown was creeping in, and I remember my producer saying you should replace these lies that you’re believing with the truth.”
Her song “You Say” is up for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song. It’s featured on her album “Look Up Child” which is also nominated for a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category.
Lauren has now been nominated for four Grammys since her career began in 2015.
