(7/10/2018) There is a new man heading Troop F here in Northeast Louisiana. Louisiana State Police announced Tuesday that Colonel Kevin Reeves has promoted John Peters to Captain in order to head Troop F as Commander. Capt. Peters is replacing Capt. Tommy Lewis, who has retired.

Capt. Peters has been with LSP for 24 years. He knows the area well. Capt. Peters lives in Ouachita Parish. He started his law enforcement career in 1992 with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office. His son attends Louisiana Tech, and his daughter attends West Ouachita High School.

Troop F Lieutenant John Peters has been promoted by Colonel Kevin Reeves to Captain and appointed to serve as the new Troop F Commander. The Troop F vacancy is due to the recent retirement of Troop F Commander, Captain Tommy Lewis.  
 
Captain Peters lives in Ouachita Parish and has been employed with the Louisiana State Police for 24 years. Captain Peters began his law enforcement career in 1992 where he worked as a Deputy for the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office.  In 1994, he was hired by Louisiana State Police and has worked at Troop F his entire career and progressed through the ranks of Trooper, Sergeant and Lieutenant.  At the time of his promotion, Capt. Peters held the position of Executive Officer.  
 
Captain Peters served the LSP SWAT team for 23 years as an Operator, Element Leader and Team Supervisor for the Alexandria, Monroe and Shreveport areas.  He has also served as an adjunct firearms instructor for the LSP Academy, Field Training Officer, and LSP liaison for GOHSEP Emergency Support Functions.  Captain Peters spent over 10 years in the Criminal Patrols and K-9 unit where he was recognized by the Drug Enforcement Administration and US Customs for his efforts.   
Captain Peters is the father of two.  His son is currently attending Louisiana Tech and his daughter attends West Ouachita High School.  He has been an active participant in his community coaching West Ouachita Youth football and baseball for 11 years as well as helping with the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. 
 
Troop F consists of 67 troopers patrolling 12 parishes and over 10,000 miles of highway.  Captain Peters hopes to continue to reduce the number of fatalities in the Troop F area while upholding the public’s expectations of service by the Louisiana State Police.
