Louisiana allowing residents to enroll in Medicaid online, but time is running out

WEST MONROE, La. - (12/5/18) Time is running out to choose your health insurance for next year.

Louisiana is now allowing residents to enroll in Medicaid online.

The upgrade costs about $71 million but federal tax dollars are covering 90% of the bill.

State officials say the new enrollment system should help prevent fraud.

It no longer requires determining eligibility case-by-case, and it doesn't rely on Medicaid patients themselves to 'self-report' whether they're still eligible for benefits.

Medicaid pays the health care bills for almost a 1/3 of Louisiana's 4.6 million people.

You can find the online application at ldh.la.gov
