A program geared towards helping high schoolers have a better chance at college now is serving a new audience.

Louisiana Delta Community College has been awarded a grant of nearly $264,000 a year to support Veterans in an adult Upward Bound Program.

The City of Monroe has roughly 2700 Veterans and only 400 of them have started/completed post-secondary education.

Trio is the name of the Veterans Upward Bound Program which is geared towards helping Veterans be successful as they further their education.

Louisiana Delta Community College Chancellor says they are honored to be able to give back to those who have given so much to our community. “At the end of the day, this is really just about our Veterans and about our total commitment here to serve people who have served us so well here in the region. We want them to come out here and transition into civilian life, continuing and find the resources they need in post secondary environments to be successful tp help our area thrive and grow,” says Dennis Epps.

The primary goal of this grant is to help more Veterans in our community get a college degree.
