(8/30/18) According to our partners at The News-Star, the Ouachita Parish School Board at a Tuesday meeting honored an employee who acted quickly to protect students one morning last week.
Transportation Director Skeeter Boyd said there was a close call last week. The drivers spend a lot of training on loading and unloading children because it’s the most dangerous part of the job.
It started out a normal day. A 6:51 a.m., that changed. Bus Driver Harry Lilly stopped to pick up Katie Bostick’s kids and saw a black truck coming at 60 to 70 mph. When Lilly saw the truck wasn’t going to stop, he pulled back the window and yelled for the kids crossing the street to stop.
Superintendent Don Coker gave Lilly a certificate of excellence for quick action in a crisis.
