(1/25/19) Longtime Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone has announced he will not seek a fifth term as Sheriff of Lincoln Parish.

His fourth term will end early in 2020.

“I felt an obligation to inform the citizens, and all our great Deputies and Volunteers of my intentions. After much prayer and conversations with my Family, I have decided to retire at the end of this term on June 30, 2020. Serving the people of Lincoln Parish has been a tremendous honor,” Stone said in a statement on Facebook.

Stone has served in the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s department for 42 years, was first elected Sheriff in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007, 2011 and 2015.

Stone said the time was right to retire because he felt the department had accomplished the goals he had set out at the beginning of his tenure.

“We have established a very strong team of deputies and command staff who are more than capable of continuing the quality service our citizens expect and deserve,” Stone said.

The election for Sheriff will be this October.

His full retirement statement can be read on the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
