La.’s Fleming takes over as Trump’s new economic development chief

(3/15/19) According to our partners at The News-Star, former Louisiana Republican Congressman John Fleming, once thought to be a possible challenger to Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards, was sworn in Friday as the new head of the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Fleming, a doctor and businessman from Webster Parish, was nominated by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the Senate earlier this month.

“John’s diverse experience as an entrepreneur, veteran, physician and former U.S. congressman make him an excellent choice to lead EDA,” said U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in a statement.
