LIVINGSTON, La. (NBC 33) (FOX 44) – (5/29/19) Funding is still an issue for prosecutors in the Dakota Theriot case and that will be the main topic for his scheduled hearing.
Theriot is accused of killing his girlfriend, her family, and his parents then fleeing the state and later captured more than 1,000 miles away in Virginia. He’s facing three first degree murder charges.
His attorneys said that their team is completely unfunded, leaving them working for free and unable to hire needed investigators and experts.
Last month, the attorneys filed court papers that said the public defender’s office doesn’t have funding for capital cases.
A judge is seeking the death penalty in the case.
The hearing is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Livingston Parish Courthouse.
