The Bastrop Fire Department says a fellow bin worker helped save the day after a man became trapped inside of a grain bin on Tuesday.

According to the department, they responded to the call of an entrapped gentleman on the brink of suffocation at Jones in the far Northern part of Morehouse Parish around noon on May 15, 2018.

The rescue took several hours to come to a successful end.

Firefighters fought heat exhaustion and fatigue to save a life and did so with integrity and love for the citizens of their community.

The Bastrop Fire Department wants to commend a man who made the rescue a success, David Johnson.

David is an employee at the grain bins who led fire crews to the idea of using equipment that basically surrounds a victim submerged in grain and extracts the grain from around the individual for a possible rescue.

Without the fire crews knowing about the equipment this could have been tragic.

The name of the man rescued has not been released.
