Four troopers injured following high speed pursuit near Alexandria

Local News

(9/26/18) Four State Troopers were injured Wednesday morning after a juvenile suspect attempted to evade and flee from police during a traffic stop in Alexandria.

It happened around 10:30 a.m., when a trooper stopped the driver of a vehicle on LA Hwy 1 at Airbase Road for traffic violations, police say.

18 year old Torie Lewis of Alexandria exited the vehicle and began talking to police.

At that point one of two juvenile passengers repositioned himself as the driver and sped off, police say.

A sheriff’s deputy who stopped to provide backup for the Trooper took custody of Lewis as the Trooper gave chase at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

As other troopers joined the pursuit, the juvenile driver refused to stop and his vehicle collided with several LSP vehicles before becoming disabled, police say.

Both juveniles were taken into custody.

As a result of the pursuit, police say, four troopers received minor to moderate injuries and required medical attention.

One trooper, they say, was treated at the scene by medical personnel and three were transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.

18 year old Torie Lewis of Alexandria was charged with tint violation, seat belt violation, possession of CDS I (marijuana), outstanding warrants (Assumption Parish)

A 17 year old juvenile, also from Alexandria was charged with possession of CDS I (marijuana), aggravated assault with a vehicle on a police officer (3 counts), aggravated flight, resisting a police officer with force or violence, reckless operation, aggravated second degree battery (2 counts)

A second 17 year old juvenile  was charged with possession of CDS I (marijuana), outstanding warrants (Assumption Parish and Texas)

Police say the suspects were all booked into the Rapides Parish Jail.
