(3/9/19) The Jonesboro Fire Department responded to a fire call at Jackson Parish Hospital at 3:50 a.m.

Jackson Parish Hospital staff responded, as trained, with fire extinguishers to put out the fire before major damage could occur.

Jonesboro Fire and LA State Fire Marshal Investigators have determined the source of the fire started in a bucket placed against the kitchen door full of used, cleaning rags. Authorities say the exact cause is undetermined at this time, but investigators are not ruling out the possibility of spontaneous combustion of the chemicals on the rags.

The State Fire Marshal Deputy conducted a follow-up inspection of the building to ensure its safety before staff could go back to work. With all life safety systems in full operation and the minimal damage from the fire cleaned up, the hospital was allowed to remain in full operation.
