(5/3/2018) Louisiana State Police say people living within the five-mile radius of FlowChem Technologies in Acadia Parish are being told by law enforcement agencies to evacuate.
Both lanes of Interstate 10 from the Lafayette I-49 exit to Crowley are closed. The interstate from Crowley to Scott, State Police Troop I spokesman Brooks David said.
Drivers are asked to reroute to major highways and other alternative routes.
Massive plumes of smoke are still billowing from the chemical facility at this time. No injuries have been reported, but the building is still engulfed in flames.
FlowChem is a specialty oilfield chemical provider that operates across the Gulf and U.S.
The company provides products and services to major oil and gas companies, plants and refineries.
It maintains two chemical blending facilities, one in Duson and one in Texas. It also operates multiple warehouses.
People who were driving by before the interstate and other roads were closed have posted pictures on social media.
