El Dorado first responders believe practice makes perfect.

First responders conducted an active shooter training today at Westside Christian School in El Dorado.

The exercise included the El Dorado Police Department, Arkansas State Police, Union County Sheriff’s Office and the El Dorado Fire Department.

Students, with adult permission, joined the training to give officers hands-on practice.

The drill focused on newer first responders, teaching them new strategies and how to cooperate with other agencies.

“For years law enforcement was trained to respond one way and then after incidents, after action reviews, things changed, so you learned to respond differently,” said Captain Kevin Holt, El Dorado Police Department. “Training is constantly updating.”

Several faculty and staff participated in the training.
