(11/6/18) Conagra Brands is voluntarily recalling some of its Duncan Hines cake mixes due to a potential risk of salmonella after five people got sick after reportedly eating cake or batter made from the mix.
A Classic White cake mix tested positive for salmonella, and while it is not definitively linked to a salmonella outbreak the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control are investigating, the company decided to pull it and three other varieties from shelves:
- Classic White cake mix: 644209307500 UPC, Used By Dates from March 7-13, 2019
- Classic Butter Golden cake mix: 644209307494 UPC, Used By Dates from March 9-13, 2019
- Signature Confetti cake mix: 644209307593 UPC, Used By Dates from March 7-9, 2019
- Classic Yellow cake mix: 644209414550 UPC, Used By Dates from March 12-13, 2019
Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and can cause serious infections in children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.
People should return the cake mixes to the stores where they bought them.
