Collegiate basketball coming back to El Dorado this fall

Local News

(4/4/19) Men and women’s collegiate basketball is making a comeback this fall at South Arkansas Community College.

The college had a team back in the 1980’s called the Stars and administrators began considering the idea of bringing it back two years ago.

The program is currently applying for NJCAA division 2 which will allow them to provide college scholarships to athletes.

The two new Stars coaches are from the South Arkansas area.

Nate Davis, from Dermott, will be the men’s head coach while Michael Wolfe, from El Dorado, will be the women’s head coach.

Games will be played at the El Dorado Boys and Girls Club.

The coaches say this is a great opportunity for the El Dorado community, the South Ark campus, and area athletes.

“This is big for the community. Just the opportunity to not only allow student athletes to showcase their skills but they’ll have an opportunity for a college education,” said Nate Davis.

Michael Wolfe said, “It’ll bring back in the community: fellowship, families, organizations.”

Tryouts for the women’s team will be April 28 from 1 pm to 3 pm and tryouts for the men’s team will be from 3 pm to 5 pm.

A schedule to determine game dates and times is being made.
