City leaders and volunteers team up to take the lead in the fight against litter

Local News

(4/12/19) WEST MONROE, La. — The steps of West Monroe’s City Hall were packed this morning with dozens of locals taking the lead on litter.

Leaders Against Litter, a campaign hosted by Keep West Monroe Beautiful and Ouachita Green, is an annual event where leaders in the community come together to battle littering.

There were several speakers at the event including West Monroe Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell.

The goal is to make West Monroe and Ouachita Parish a more beautiful and cleaner place.

“It’s important to keep the community clean. A good quality of life attracts new businesses, attracts people that are wanting to move here to the city and the parish and just to have an overall sense of pride in your community,” said Ouachita Green director Stuart Hodnett.

After the rally, members and volunteers signed the Keep West Monroe Beautiful board.

They then headed out to do a clean up, perpetuating the importance of their mission through their service.

Unfortunately, due to tomorrow’s weather, the organizations had to cancel their plans for the Great American Clean Up.
