Children’s Coalition of NELA receives $625,000 grant to help keeps our kids drug free

Local News

(9/6/18) The Children’s Coalition of Northeast Louisiana is committed to keeping our kids drug free.

The Drug-Free Communities Support Grant program has been around for 20 years and they have granted $625,000 to help the Children’s Coalition with programs to prevent abuse of prescription drugs, tobacco, marijuana, and alcohol.

Mary Barrios with the Children’s Coalition said, “It’s a federally funded grant so it’s going to allow us to do this work we have been doing with our student ambassadors and other youth in Union Parish for the next 5 years.”

Student ambassador Trinity Wallace said, “I think it’s very important to keep this going because other kids throughout the parish need someone to look up to and they need someone to go ask questions they may not know or they may not have that at home.”

The grant will be given to the Union Parish Alliance for Community Transformation to work towards a healthier and safer environment for youth.
