Just under a year ago, Head Start School in Ruston burned in a fire; the cause remaining unknown.
“October 17, 2017, the building burned. We got a notice early in the morning.”
Firefighters from Ruston, Choudrant and Lincoln, spent three hours putting the flames out. With nothing left standing, students and staff had to go somewhere else.
“We’re housed at the Zion Travel Baptist Church and that’s where we started school this year.”
All that’s left; empty buses in a lot and a lifeless playground.
It’s been just around a year since the school unexpectedly burned to the ground. But one fire that can’t be put out is in the hearts of the administration of Head Start.
“We’re presently working on getting hte old Lincoln High School ready to occupy for Head Star.”
Harris says moving next door has its benefits.
“Going to the new site will add more room that we will have to be responsible for maintaining, however, the possibility of being there and the advantages it will give our program are well worth it.”
Leaders say teachers, parents and students are looking forward to moving to a permanent home.
“Excited. Constantly asking are we ready, are we ready, are we ready.”
