UPDATE: Neighbors worry about the safety of their children after Bernice bar shooting

UNION PARISH, La. - UPDATE (3/18/19) - Residents, who live across the street from the Rolex Lounge, are concerned about the safety of the children in the area.  

"I was in the house and heard it was bout 30 gunshots", said Darrell Champion. 

Police say gunshots rang out St. Patrick's weekend killing 23-year-old Kemothy Starks, Jr. and sending a second victim to a Shreveport hospital fighting for their life. Champion says the bullets he heard in the middle of the night didn't stop.

"At first I aint know what it was until it just kept going", exclaimed Champion. 

Police say the shooting took place at the Rolex lounge off Highway 167 just before 2am Saturday morning. Champion has lived across the street from the lounge for 2 years, and says something like this is out of the ordinary for the area. 

"That's the first time that [has happened] down here", said Champion.

Champion's biggest concern is the safety of his kids and everyone else in the neighborhood.

"Bullets ain't got no eyes on it, bullets can go anywhere", said Champion.

No word on the second victim's condition. The investigation is ongoing as police search for whoever pulled the trigger.

(3/16/19) UPDATE: LSP released the name of deceased 23-year-old victim Kemothy Starks Jr. of Ruston.

The condition of the hospitalized second shooting victim is still unknown.

Troopers are investigating a shooting that took place at a bar in Bernice.

The Union Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched at 1:45 a.m. to the Rolex Lounge in regards to a shooting. Two victims were found. One was dead and the the other was in critical condition. They were taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to University Health Center in Shreveport.

Deputies said they have not been able to identify the suspect who shot the two victims.

Deputies said Louisiana State Police are taking over the investigation.
