(4/16/19) “I feel overwhelmed with all the love. I thought I would have a little support but I have a whole lot of support,” Tony Clifton said.
People in the Sardis community are coming together and building a tiny home for a homeless family.
When Tony Clifton heard the family was living in their car, he says he wanted to do something to help them out.
He decided to flip an RV he had sitting around, into a house.
The house is 200 square feet, and it has everything you need.
When people heard about what Clifton was doing, the love and support started pouring out.
Volunteers from across the state traveled to help out and give the family a place to call home.
“We love the lord and we’re doing this to help one family out,” Clifton said.
From the outside, you’ll see an RV, but on the inside, you’ll see volunteers working.
“We got some guys here from Cabot and from Traskwood, Arkansas along with different churches and foundations we have one common goal,” Clifton said.
The goal is to build a tiny home for a homeless family of four.
“They’re just flabbergasted someone would go out of their way,” Clifton said.
Clifton found out the family was living out of their car.
“That shouldn’t happen. I have so much and all I have to do is give a little and everyone gave a little and it equals a lot,” Clifton said.
From sinks, a toilet, walk-in bathroom, heating and cooling and a bedroom with bunk beds. The tiny house has it all.
“It means a whole lot everywhere we go people are giving us either free materials or discounts on materials,” Clifton said.
Clifton says it means a lot to see everything coming together.
“It feels good to be able to physically do something and not just talk about doing something. We all do things all the time, but we don’t let the left hand or right-hand turn. I felt like this needed to be done to give other people inspiration that they can help,” Clifton said.
Clifton says the only thing they need is a membrane roof.
The family has been staying with the Cliftons until the house is complete.
The hope to have everything wrapped up in about two weeks.
