(4/2/19) Monroe Police have arrested a man after an April Fools joke he pulled on three teachers took a wrong turn.
Edward Cheek, 72 of Monroe, was arrested Monday after teachers say he pointed what they believed to be a real gun at them and said “bang, bang, April Fools”.
According to the arrest report, on April 1, 2019 at approximately 8:05 a.m., Edward Cheek pulled into the drop off area of Lexington Elementary in proximity of 3 separate teachers and pointed a toy gun at each of them and said “bang, bang, April Fools.”
The three teachers each said they initially thought the gun was real as Cheek pointed it at them and made them feel threatened.
Once Cheek moved forward in the line, they noticed it was a toy gun.
Officers made contact with Cheek at his residence.
He admitted to pointing a small orange water pistol at the teachers as an April Fools joke.
He also surrendered the water pistol.
Cheek was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on three counts of assault on a school teacher.
He has since been released.
