Angola shakedown: Beer, phones, tattoo gun found

MONROE, La. (The News-Star) – (4/7/19) According to our partners at The News-Star, more than 250 officers and 16 K-9 dog teams from Acadiana to Alexandria conducted a massive shakedown at Louisiana State Penitentiary early Saturday to uncover homemade beer, seven cellphones and a homemade tattoo gun.

Louisiana Department of Corrections officials said the light haul shows the agency’s efforts to reduce contraband are working.

“I applaud our employees at Louisiana State Penitentiary for what they are doing to fight the smuggling,” said corrections Secretary Jimmy Le Blanc in a press release. “We are making progress in our fight to rid our state prisons of contraband, but we must stay the course and continue our aggressive efforts.
