400 school supplies kits donated to Block High School

Local News

(3/9/19) Last September, Block High School students protested, asking for a better education, qualified teachers and school improvements.

“It’s not only our problem, it’s everybody’s problem because if we don’t have our education how are we going to go out in the world,” said student Leanna Dodge.

Things have taken a turn since the protests with a new principal and superintendent.

On Friday, a group called Empower the Block donated 400 school supplies kits, as well as sporting equipment, with the help of organizations across the world.

“Tears came into my eyes to know that people who don’t even know you care so much about you,” said student Zature Osteen.

Event organizer, Havilah Malone says the stories of the kids at Block forced her to join the fight.

“Whoever would have thought that all of this would have came together,” said Dodge.
