3D mammogram may improve breast cancer detection

Local News

St. Francis Hospital now offers one the most advanced mammography tools available for early detection of breast cancer. The hospital recently added a 3D Digital Breast Mammography screening unit to its Radiology Department with the Genius 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exam. The technology will be used to provide patients access to a comprehensive screening and diagnostic breast imaging.

Statistics show that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, making it the second most common cancer in American women, according to the American Cancer Society.

In recent studies, the 3D Digital Mammography exams not only were able to find cancers that remained undetected by traditional mammograms but also were able to significantly reduce the number of false exam results – cutting back the number of callbacks for unnecessary additional screenings.

The mammography exams will continue to be conducted at the hospital’s Imaging Center located at the St. Francis Community Health Center on 2600 Tower Drive in Monroe. For additional details on  a Genius 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exam,  contact Kitty
