A woman’s cowboy boot was apparently the weapon of choice used by a couple who was arrested early Sunday morning by Union Parish sheriff’s deputies.
The man, Sidney E. Kilcrease, 64, of 2019 Hicks St., West Monroe, told deputies that Alice H. Havard, 63, of 251 Dogwood Lane, Farmerville, started beating him with her cowboy boot while he was driving 65 mph on La. Hwy. 15 south near Kyle Road.
Havard admitted that she struck Kilcrease with the boot because he would carry her home. She also said that Kilcrease struck her with the boot.
Kilcrease told deputies that he did strike Havard with the boot but “only in self-defense.”
According to deputies, Kilcrease was bleeding from the nose and right arm, and he also had swelling on one of his cheeks. The deputies reported that Havard showed some redness and swelling on her left cheek. Deputies reported that both smelled of an alcoholic beverage.
Sheriff Dusty Gates said each was charged with aggravated battery (domestic).
Bond will set after a court hearing, the sheriff said.
