BASTROP, La. — (4/9/19) Officials are investigating after a child was found in a drainage ditch on Tuesday.
According to Bastrop Police, an 11-year-old male child was found in a ditch behind Baron Ball Park on East Pecan Avenue in Bastrop.
The identity of the child has not been released.
The child was reportedly last seen on Saturday afternoon, but was not reported missing to police.
Police believe the juvenile is a victim of the flash flooding that occurred in Bastrop on Sunday evening.
There were no signs of foul play, however the investigation is still open pending the results of the official autopsy.
The Bastrop Police Department provided the following statement:
“We wish to remind everyone, both adults and children, that flash flood waters are extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all times. During a flash flood, water as shallow as 3 inches can knock you off your feet and wash you away.
Our condolences and prayers go out to the family and our community.”
