JONESBORO, Ark. (KARK) – (6/7/19) A shooting suspect is dead after a standoff with police.

It happened around 7:35 p.m. Wednesday in the 3100 block of Barnhill Rd., according to a Jonesboro Police Department (JPD) news release issued Thursday.

Police had been called to the scene after a woman was reported to have been shot in a family dispute.

The JPD says its officers, Craighead County Sheriff’s Office deputies and an ambulance responded to the scene.

The news release states that a witness told police “a male suspect pulled a gun on a family member and the gun did not discharge. He then pointed and shot a female in the lower back.”

The woman was taken to the hospital by a personal vehicle and underwent emergency surgery. There’s no further word on her condition.

Police say the suspect then barricaded himself in a mobile home and refused to negotiate. Fours hours later, S.W.A.T. deployed tear gas and the suspect ran out a back door. Shots were fired and the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.

State Police have been called in to investigate.
