Louisiana closing some shrimping areas on Sunday

Louisiana News

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana says it’s closing some areas to shrimping so large numbers of white shrimp in those areas can grow to marketable size.

The areas being closed include Lake Pontchartrain and several nearby waters, as well as outside waters along the middle of the coast between Caillou Boca and Freshwater Bayou Canal.

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says those areas will close at official sunset on Sunday.

The area from the Texas state line to Freshwater Bayou Canal will remain open.

So will the open waters of Breton and Chandeleur Sound and outside waters from there to Caillou Boca.  A map is available at the department website.
