HAUGHTON, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The son of a man whose body was found after flames tore through a Haughton mobile home Wednesday night believes his father might have died from a heart attack before the fire.
Larry Good, Jr., who says it was his father, 83-year-old Lawrence Good, lives in the house just behind his father’s home off Sligo Rd. in the 2600 block of Barron Rd. He saw the smoke and flames and rushed over when it broke out just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. When he got inside, he found his father unconscious next to the fireplace.
“It was hard, and until it happens to you, you don’t know what you can or cannot do when you’re processing that,” said Good, Jr.
The family says they’ll have to wait for an autopsy to confirm whether he died before the smoke reached him.
Bossier Fire District #2 responded to the fire, but the home was destroyed.
“Our investigators are not ruling out the potential for unsafe smoking practices and or a wood burning fireplace as possible contributing factors,” said Louisiana State Fire Marshal Public Affairs Director Ashley Rodrigue.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
