Crime

RUSTON, La. (Press Release) – (1/31/20) On January 30, 2020 at approximately 9:40 PM, an officer from the Uniform Patrol Division of the Ruston Police Department was on patrol in the area around Martin Luther King Avenue and Clay Street.

The officer observed a traffic violation and stopped a 1998 Buick LeSabre solely occupied and driven by Keyone LaDravon Womack 27 year old male from Ruston.

Upon coming into contact with Womack, the officer immediately detected the strong odor associated with marijuana emitting from the interior of Womack’s vehicle.

While obtaining driver and vehicle information from Womack, the officer observed in plain view a suspected marijuana cigarette and other drug paraphernalia.

The officer opened the driver’s side door in order to take the driver into custody. The officer ordered Womack to exit his vehicle, to which he refused to comply. He also began to frantically dig around in his vehicle.

The officer took hold of Womack’s arm in an attempt to take him into custody, when Womack attempted to pull away. This action caused the officer to be partially pulled into Womack’s vehicle.

It was at this time that Womack put his vehicle into gear and began to accelerate rapidly. The officer began to be dragged by the vehicle, so he pulled himself further into the vehicle to keep from being run over by Womack.

The officer and Womack began to struggle for control of vehicle as it continued to accelerate. The vehicle crossed the center line and was headed for a utility pole when the officer was able to steer the vehicle to the side, where it struck the utility pole’s guide wire.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, the officer and Womack continued to struggle. The officer deployed his departmental issued Taser on Womack, with some success.

The officer was finally able to gain control of Womack and take him into custody.

A subsequent search of Womack’s vehicle revealed a Beretta handgun, seventy-one (71) dosage units of suspected MDMA, Marijuana, a digital scale, and clear, empty plastic bags.

Womack was transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he was booked on the charges of:
