(04/11/19) – A suspect in the Louisiana church fires has been taken into custody.
Two law enforcement officials with direct knowledge of the ongoing investigation tell CNN the person arrested in connection with the case is a 21-year-old male from Saint Landry Parish.
Authorities say three historically black churches were intentionally set on fire. Saint Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre, Louisiana was the first church set on fire on March 26th.
Within 10 days, Greater Union and Mount Pleasant Baptist churches were also burned to the ground.
Police believe they’ve caught the person responsible for a deadly hit-and-run in Bastrop. Police arrested Tate Dukes Tuesday. He has been charged with felony hit and run. The incident happened last Tuesday in the 400 block of Collinston Road.
40-year-old Mark Ramey, was found in a ditch, and later died at an area hospital.
Dukes was caught on camera some time after the incident, and police used the images to help identify him and make the arrest.
