Love Your Community Day rescheduled to April 27th

MONROE, La. (Press Release) — (4/11/19) Due to rain, Love Your Community has been rescheduled for April 27thin order to make the event more enjoyable for you, your family, and friends. It is from 10am-4pm. Angel Star’s performance time has changed to 1pm. Along with the reschedule, the preregistration date for pageant entry has been extended to April 24thwith a $20 late fee added any day after. Entry forms can be found at the Downtown RiverMarket website, downtownrivermarket.com

The Origin Bank RiverMarket presents Love Your Community Day in Downtown Monroe, on April 13th from 10am-4pm at 316 South Grand Street. Love Your Community Day is all about supporting local artists, non-profits, businesses, and authors.

If you or someone you know have a love for books, authors including T.S Murphy will be there to sign books and talk about their works. Murphy is a dog, cat, and bunny mom originally from a small town in Oklahoma. She lives in Northeast Louisiana and has independently published a series called “The Imperfect Girls”. Come learn more about her and many other authors including, Tassa Avara, Monique Shantay, Shannon Landry, Nicole Brown, Randy Denmon, Linda Cannon, and Ricky Pittman at the author book signing from 1pm-3pm. The Ouachita Parish Public Library’s Bookmobile will be on site all day where you can find several works by these authors. The Ouachita Parish Public Library will also be announcing the winner of their writing contest at 12pm.

Love Your Community Day is a day full of shopping opportunities from local vendors like Southern Chic Boutique, Color Street Nails, and Krayola Snacks. Kona Ice will have snocones of different flavors to cool down the day with. Custer’s Kettle Corn sells a variety of kettle corn including the popular flavor, caramel apple and will have it along with many other flavors. Don’t miss out on an opportunity for quilts, photographs, kettle corn, snocones and more!

If you are looking to get more involved in your community, several non-profit organizations will be on site to let you know how you can support them and get involved. Advent Life, United Way, Child Advocacy Center of NELA, Wellspring, and American Red Cross are some of the non-profit organizations that will have information booths all day. These non-profit organizations have served the NELA community throughout the years. 

Local gospel singer Angel Starr performs at 11am. Angel has been singing since the age of five. In 2014 she released her EP titled “#Acapella” and has since worked with Dupree Owens to produce “I Know Jesus Acapella”. Don’t miss out on her performance!

This is an event for the whole family, so bring the kids to enjoy the Kids’ Zone all day. The Kids’ Zone features Once Upon a Party jumpers, kid’s karaoke, and Danny Barton the Magician! There is also a kids coloring contest from 10am-11am. 

During Love Your Community Day, the first annual Little Miss Ouachita River Pageant will be held from 2:30pm-4pm. Know a little one deserving of a title and that has a passion for pageants? Enter your 0-12-year-old in the Little Miss Ouachita River pageant. Randee Jo Langley, RiverMarket Coordinator says, “We are so excited for our first Little Miss Ouachita River pageant. We hope that you will join us and support the girls competing for the 6 titles.” Entry for the pageant is $40 and an additional $10 to be judged on best dressed, photogenic, and most beautiful. Entry forms must be mailed to the RiverMarket by the pre-registration deadline of April 5th. There is a $20 late fee added for anyone who registers after that date. Parking can be found at the north end of the RiverMarket and many locations near the RiverMarket. Another public parking lot can be found across from Bry Park, and along the street behind the Courthouse. There is also parking at the Sheriff’s Office and in the Police Annex Parking lot.
