Something to think about: In order to have winter weather in the Arklamiss, we need two main ingredients: cold temperatures & moisture. Cold temperatures we have….. moisture may be limited.
Arctic air arrives Monday, settling in during the day & night. With cold air in place & moisture moving in from the west, winter precip is likely in the Arklamiss tonight-Tuesday night. It will begin as snow flurries tonight, changing over to light/moderate snow Tuesday. A mix of sleet will be possible as well.
(See attached graphic) Once again, the I-20 corridor will be a good point of reference for this event. Drier air will likely limit snow north of the interstate. This will bring mostly snow flurries with the potential for dusting in this area. Along the I-20 corridor, flurries will give way to light snow Tuesday. The potential for a light dusting to one inch will be possible. South of the interstate, moderate snow will be possible Tuesday. With one to two inches possible.
Winter Storm Watches have been posted for Gulf Coast areas. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Winn, Grant, Caldwell, & LaSalle Parishes until 6pm,Tuesday. (See attached graphic)
Snow is not a guarantee for the ArkLaMiss! The “bigger” winter weather problems will once again be to our south. I think the overall shift with models may become drier for our area, instead pushing heaviest winter weather to our south. Stay tuned for further updates.
Once guarantee will be the dangerously cold temperatures Tuesday night. Near record lows forecast. We should wake up in the teens area wide. Go ahead and start thinking about cold weather threats.
