WEST MONROE, La. - Good Thursday morning! Don't leave the house without the rain jacket or umbrella, it's going to be a soggy day. It's another gloomy start outside with foggy conditions and light drizzle moving through the region. Temperatures are mild, only in the lower 60's this morning and highs expected to climb to 70° for a lot of us for the first time since before Christmas! Enjoy the warmth. Skies will be cloudy with winds from the south.
Talking about rain now... we will be seeing light shower activity on and off through the morning and early afternoon across the entire coverage area before the cold front makes it's way into the region. A line of showers and thunderstorms will develop along the frontal boundary and move from west to east across the ArkLaMiss starting this afternoon and lasting through the evening.Rainfall will be moderate to heavy at times with accumulations finishing up near 1" area-wide with locally higher amounts possible.
Overnight we will see the shower activity dwindle down and as cool air moves in, there will be some potential for sleet/wintry mix to fall before sunrise tomorrow morning. Lows are expected to dip down into the low to mid 30's, so if there is any leftover moisture wrapping around the center of the low pressure system there is going to be a chance for some of that frozen precipitation to fall across parts of the ArkLaMiss, most likely for areas north of I-20. The good news is no sleet or freezing rain is expected to accumulate or stick, so it will be more of a novelty than a nuisance.Roads, especially bridges and overpasses still may be slick from the earlier rainfall, though, so you should still use caution on the roads. Winds will also be strong overnight after the front passes, 15-20 mph from the north with stronger gusts.
Tomorrow we will see any precipitation chances dry out early in the morning and skies will clear after that. We should be seeing sunny skies by the afternoon, with high temperatures only topping out in the mid 40's. Winds will be breezy from the north.
