NBC News -- Plenty of us are being forced into last minute Christmas shopping this weekend because of lousy weather of weekends past.

Being well past shipping deadlines is a factor, too.

"Consumers are more likely to shop in stores this weekend, simply because they don't want to have to worry that their packages won't arrive on time," says RetailMeNot.com's Trae Bodge.

Surveys by RetailMeNot.com and Consumer Reports predict upwards of 90-percent of us will shop this weekend or right up to next Wednesday.

Hungry brick and mortar retailers who haven't had a particularly good season are counting on it.

"You're going to have an ample opportunity this weekend because many stores are going to have marathon shopping events," says Consumer Reports Senior Editor Tod Marks. "Toys R Us is going to be open for 87 straight hours through 9pm on Christmas Eve."

Deep discounts are expected, especially on toys and clothing.
