UNION PARISH -- Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates said Tuesday that his department is investigating a home invasion, armed robbery that occurred over the weekend in the Rocky Branch community.

A masked white male approached the victim early Sunday morning who was working outside his home, forced him inside at gunpoint and robbed him. He also was tied up.

Gates said the gunman robbed the victim of an undetermined amount of cash, a safe and took his vehicle.

The victim managed to free himself and called 911.

Within a half hour, deputies located the stolen vehicle at the Point Bridge near Rocky Branch. "There was evidence that somebody picked him up where the vehicle was abandoned," Gates said.

The one suspect was described as a white male about 6-foot, two inches in height with a thin build.
