State Representative Wants $10 Minimum Wage for Monroe

Monroe -- A raise in minimum wage to 10 dollars an hour? That's what state Representative Marcus Hunter wants for all workers within Monroe City limits.

He says he will introduce a bill in next year's legislative session.

Tonight Monroe City Council will vote on a resolution that supports the bill.

Hunter says the raise would make Monroe more appealing to outsiders.

"If we want to be a city that's progressive, in terms in how we take care of our citizens, I think us making an effort to pay our citizens will put us ona different playing field to other cities. It will make us more attractive. It will provide for a better work atmosphere."

The minimum wage is currently $7.25

The Monroe council meets Monday.
