The Monroe City Council has voted 3-2 to make local businesses smoke free. That includes bars and bingo halls. A previous ordinance did not.

Council members Ray Armstrong, Gretchen Ezernack, and Kenny Wilson supported the issue. Council members Eddie Clark and Betty Blakes opposed.

The ordinance will go into effect January 2, 2014 and is contingent upon the West Monroe City Council and Ouachita Parish Police Jury passes similar ordinances. OPPJ votes on the matter October 7th and West Monroe City Council October 8th.
