Shooting Rampage in Lafourche Parish

On Thursday, a shooting spree in Raceland, Louisiana left four people dead, including the suspected gunman. Lafourche Parish Councilman was shot and injured.
RACELAND, LA -- On Thursday, a shooting spree in Raceland, Louisiana left four people dead, including the suspected gunman.

Police believe 38-year-old Ben Freeman shot and killed his wife in Houma before going to two homes in Lafourche Parish and opening fire.

The first attack was on the family of Lafourche Parish Councilman, Louis Phillip Gouax. His wife, Susan, was fatally shot. Gouax and his daughter, Andrea were also shot and taken to University Hospital in New Orleans. They remain in stable condition.

Freeman is the former son-in-law of Gouax.

The second shooting happened about twenty minutes later. Milton Bourgeois, an administrator at Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital, was shot and killed at close range. His wife, Ann, was also shot and taken to the hospital where at last check she is in stable condition.

Freeman was a former employee of Ochsner St. Anne Hospital.

Freeman's body was later found dead in a vehicle parked on the side of US Highway 90 of an apparent self-inflicted wound.

Police are investigating what led to the shootings.
