(FOX NEWS) Fans of the Fox hit comedy "The Mindy Project" get to fall in love with Mindy and the cast all over again. The show returns to TV Tuesday night for its second season boasting a crop of insanely great guest stars.
"The Mindy Project" picks up where the first season left off and fittingly brings in a big guest star to get things started! Mindy Kaling, the show's star, creator and writer talks about what to expect out of the new season.
"One of the big things that we love is fun guest stars that play romantic arcs," Kaling says. "And we're lucky because James Franco is in the first two episodes and he's awesome and we also like the dynamic of the main cast is really solidified in a really funny way and I just really love those characters."
Franco follows his buddy Seth Rogan who also did a guest stint.
"I had known James for awhile just like obviously been a fan of his, and socially we have so many friends in common, and Seth came and did the show and it was so funny," Kaling says. "When I saw him on the movie we shot, I saw him for a couple days, I was like oh this guy is so fun and great and we're very different types of people but I just think he's so funny and game for anything. Obviously he's so incredibly busy doing movies, teaching college courses and stuff and he happened to have a small window that happened to fit into our shooting schedule"
And Kaling says a big dramatic actor will make his "Mindy" debut. "We have a really great mix of amazing comedy actors and then people who don't get to do comedy a lot like Timothy Olyphant who's the star of Justified."
Mindy is flattered by the response from fans about the show overall...
"One of the nicest compliments is when women who watch the show say they want to be my best friend," Kaling says. "Or my little sister because I didn't have a sister growing up and it would be such a joy to have a sister and I love giving advice so much. I'm so bossy that would be a great joy."
For those invested in the whole "will they or won't they" story line between two major characters, she says that is also a big part of season 2.
"Mindy is away in Haiti and Danny got back together with his wife so they are kind of further apart than ever at least romantically," Kaling says. "But we do play a lot with that in kind of big theatrical ways early on in the season. So if you like Danny and Mindy and want to see what happens, it's like tune in very early this season."
Season 2 premeires Sept. 17th. Then tune-in for "The Mindy Project" every Tuesday night on Fox.
