Rider Seriously Injured in Morehouse Parish Motorcycle Crash

A motorcycle driver wa seriously injured after crashing into a car Thursday.

MOREHOUSE PARISH -- Louisiana State Police Troop F reports they responded to a two-vehicle serious injury crash at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday.

The crash happened on Louisiana Highway 139 north of Louisiana Highway 554.

Troopers' investigation so far reveals that a 2008 Suzuki GSX motorcycle, driven by 28-year-old Derrick Harper of Bastrop, was driving south on Highway 139 when he struck a 2012 Toyota Highlander driven by 55-year-old Elizabeth Nelson of Bastrop.

Nelson was also driving south on Highway 139 and was making a left turn onto a privtate drive when the motorcycle attempted to pass it in a no-passing zone.

According to the troopers, Harper was wearing a U.S. Department of Transportation approved helmet. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to St. Francis Merdical Center in Monroe.

Authorities also report Nelson was wearing her seat belt and suffered moderate injuries, also taken to St. Francis Medical Center.

For now, alcohol use is not suspected, according to troopers, but toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash is still under investigation.
