Rep. Vance McAllister Speaks at Monroe Kiwanis Club

A North Louisiana Congressman talked about the current mood in the nation's capitol today
MONROE -- A north Louisiana Congressman talked about the current mood in the nation's capital on Wednesday.

5th Congressional District Congressman Vance McAllister spoke to the Monroe Kiwanis Club.

McAllister talked about the mood among lawmakers in Washington, D.C. and the progress he's made since arriving on Capital Hill.

McAllister told KTVE/KARD he wants to make as many visits to his constituents as possible.

He wants them to know he's still an every day person and not a career politician.

"Now I seem to be the center of attention, but you know, I welcome it because this is the best chance to hear people's concerns, what they want, what they need, what their problems and issues are and I think every Congressman has to be involved in their community," McAllister said.

McAllister talked about current negotiations in Congress over the federal budget, which was just passed by the House of Representatives.

"By no means whatsoever am I going to sit here and tell you that I'm excited about it, it's just a great, wonderful bill, but I think it's a step in the right direction and I'm going to address some of the issues that people I think are concerned with the military," said McAllister.
