A cool summer season is expected to lead to higher corn yields across Louisiana this year.
In the Louisiana alone, more than seven hundred thousand acres of corn will be harvested. According to the USDA, Louisiana corn production is expected to increase thirty three percent from last year.
Central Louisiana corn farmers say they are pleased with the outcome of this year's crop.
"Everything is going good. Harvesting is going good. The weather is cooperating that we can get the crops out the field. Corn yields are very good this year. All the farmers had the rains that we needed. We got them whenever the corn was pollinating and when the corn was growing, when we needed the rain we got it,' says corn farmer Darrel Franks.
Government research shows Louisiana is expected to produce 122-million bushels of corn in 2013.
