Ouachita School Board to Consider Selling Bonds to Build New School

Ouachita Parish -- The Ouachita Parish School Board wants to build a new middle school on the east side of the parish.

At a special school board meeting Thursday afternoon, the board voted to look at selling bonds to build the new school in the Swartz area.

The school would help ease crowding at Ouachita Junior High.

The bond money would also be used to finish renovations at other schools.

"It's not a tax increase and we'll be able to build a new school at Swartz but also be able to finish the renovations of the other schools on the east side of the river” said Dr. Bob Webber, Superintendent of Ouachita Parish Schools.

The board will vote on final approval of the bonds in February.

If approved, it will be placed on the May 3 ballot.
