WEST MONROE -- One lane of Interstate 20 is closed as crews continue to repair a bridge that collapsed over the weekend.

DOTD and Ouachita Public Works Department crews are working on repairing a bridge that collapsed on Vocational Parkway, located off Camp Road in West Monroe.

Crews have blocked off one lane of I-20 around the immediate area of the site to allow construction vehicles to get through over a dirt ramp they've created from the interstate. Crews say the dirt ramps they've created are not for public use until they finish their work in creating an alternate route.

The bridge collapse has prevented access to Louisiana Delta Community College West Monroe campus and a number of businesses off Vocational Road, the only way into the area. The LDCC campus is still closed today, and school officials say they are waiting until later on Monday to make a decision about closing on Tuesday.

Some folks are working their way around the situation. On Monday morning, a FedEx delivery driver said he was having troubles trying to reach businesses in the area to deliver packages. A worker for one business, Superlift, said they've been using a 4-wheeler to navigate through the trees and onto the other side to pick up package. He said they were having employees park in a field and were shuttling them by 4-wheeler to the offices.
