MONROE -- A Monroe woman is behind bars after police say she hit her daughter in the face with a belt.
Monroe Police Detectives say a complaint from school officials opened the case after the seven-year-old had injuries and marks on her face. Investigators determined her mother, Jelissa Rucks of Monroe, caused the injuries.
The child has been treated and released to relatives.
Rucks is now at OCC for one count of cruelty to a juvenile awaiting a bond hearing.
