MONROE -- Monroe police officers worked a large disturbance early Sunday morning involving 200-300 teenagers.

Monroe Police officials say around 2 a.m. Sunday, a fight broke out at a sweet 16 party being held at a party hall on the corner of South Grand and Desiard streets. Police say the crowd grew large because the event was not invitation only and was open to the public.

Police say about 200-300 youths started fighting and causing a disturbance in the street. Police were called out to help break up the crowd and to respond to a shots fired concern. Police say no evidence was found of any gunshots being fired.

Police were able to clear the scene. Police officials say the one deputy city marshal and one parent was not sufficient enough for a crowd of that size.

No injuries were reported.
