Monroe Man Seriously Injured After Accidental Shooting

A man is in the hospital with serious injuries after a gun accidentally went off.
MONROE -- Monroe Police confirm to KTVE/KARD an accidental shooting happened in the 800 block of East Rimes Street in Monroe at 9:30 Saturday morning.

The police said an elderly man was standing in his own carport when a handgun fell from his jacket pocket, hit the ground and fired.

The bullet struck the homeowner in his right thigh and groin area.

Police report the man was alert and sitting in a chair when first responders arrived.

The elderly man was taken to an area hospital and is currently being treated for moderate to serious injuries.

The police investigation reveals the man was at the house with family and no one else was injured.

For now, police said the shooting was accidental and no charges are pending at this time.
